| On February 29, 2004, Jean Bertrand Aristide, the first democratically elected president of Haiti, resigned from office under pressure, and was taken into exile in the Central African Republic. Telcy, upon learning the news, wrote this poem, denouncing what he termed Aristide's kidnapping by the United States government. The poem is called "Oh Haiti, Whom I Love, You Are Perishing." |
