West-Edens Link

Duke trustees approved $17 million for renovations to the Kilgo Quad dormitory. The action is part of the university's plan to modernize existing residence halls, beginning with the three oldest existing dormitories (Kilgo, Crowell, and Craven), and build the new 350-bed West-Edens Link dormitory. This will facilitate the university's larger plan to enable all sophomores to live on West Campus, beginning next fall, along with most juniors and seniors.

Renovation of the first three houses in Kilgo will take place this summer. Air conditioning and new data ports for each student will be added, hallways will receive new lighting, sprinkler protection will be provided throughout the building, an elevator will be added, and all bathrooms will be renovated and made accessible to the disabled. Duke Facilities Management will manage the construction process.

The university will renovate the remaining three houses in Kilgo during the summer of 2003.
